Department History |
The following are the highlights of major milestones in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department:
- In 1972, a bachelor of science degree, majoring in engineering, was first offered.
- In 1974, the School of Science and Math and Engineering was formed. The degree title changed to bachelor of science in engineering.
- In 1978, a new school of engineering was established.
- In 1984, BS degrees in Engineering with majors in civil, electrical, and mechanical were offered.
- In 1985, Legislature approved funding for TBE College of Engineering complex ($14.75 million).
- In 1986, a new dean of Howard Hughes College of Engineering was hired and the civil and mechanical engineering programs became a combined department.
- In 1988, first ABET accreditation was received. In the same year, all engineering departments moved into the new building. A new faculty in geotechnical engineering was hired.
- In 1990, the civil and mechanical engineering programs were separated under the newly formed Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Department of Mechanical Engineering. Two new faculty in the areas of water resources and transportation engineering were hired.
- In 1991, the CEE Department received approval for the PhD degree in civil engineering.
- In 1992, the CEE Department was reaccredited.
- In 1995, a geotechnical engineering faculty was hired.
- In 1997, the construction management program was added to the CEE Department and two new faculty in environmental engineering and construction management were hired.
- In 1998, civil engineering and construction management programs were reaccredited and accredited, respectively. A new faculty in construction management was hired.
- In 1999, a new faculty in water resources engineering was hired.
- In 2003, a new department chairman and director of the construction management program were hired.
- In 2004, civil engineering and construction management programs were reaccredited and a new transportation faculty joined the CEE Department.
- In 2006, Construction management moved to Dean�s office and two new faculty in structures and water resources engineering were hired.
